Faculty of Science

The Faculty Council is an advisory and consultative body responsible for examining various pedagogical, scientific, and organizational issues within the faculty. The Council undertakes missions related to proposing the organization and management of academic programs, giving opinions on the distribution of teaching workloads, monitoring the progress of educational and research activities, and making recommendations regarding the opening, modification, or closure of new programs and specializations. It also plays a role in ensuring the quality of education and promoting scientific excellence.

Furthermore, the Council contributes to strengthening coordination between departments and administrative bodies and serves as a forum for dialogue and decision-making aimed at improving the overall performance of the faculty and better serving students and academic staff.

The Faculty Council meets in a regular session once every three months upon convocation by its Chair. It may also meet in extraordinary sessions either at the request of its Chair or at the request of two-thirds of its members.

Missions of the Faculty Council :

  • Proposing the organization and coordination of academic programs at the three levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate) and suggesting the content of educational curricula.
  • Giving opinions on the distribution of teaching workloads among departments and faculty structures.
  • Monitoring and regularly evaluating pedagogical activities and proposing measures to improve them.
  • Reviewing the outcomes of scientific and pedagogical activities of academic staff and ensuring the achievement of established objectives.
  • Proposing the opening, closure, or modification of programs and specializations at various levels, in coordination with departments and relevant structures.
  • Proposing scientific research programs at the faculty level and monitoring their implementation.
  • Strengthening coordination among departments and pedagogical and scientific bodies within the faculty.
  • Giving opinions on draft budgets related to pedagogical and scientific matters.
  • Proposing scientific activities such as conferences, study days, and training workshops.
  • Examining all matters submitted by the Dean of the Faculty relating to the management of pedagogical and scientific affairs.
  • Submitting recommendations and proposals to university authorities for appropriate decision-making.

Members of the Faculty Council:

Includes the Faculty Scientific Council, in accordance with Article 37: 

  • The Dean of the Faculty, as Chair.
  • The Head of the Faculty Scientific Council.
  • The Heads of Departments.
  • The Director(s) of research units and research laboratories.
  • Elected representatives of the teaching staff from each department, chosen from among the highest-ranked academic staff.
  • One elected student representative from each department.
  • Elected representatives of administrative staff.

The Vice-Deans, the General Secretary, as well as the Head of the Faculty Library, attend meetings in an advisory capacity (non-voting).
