Closing of the Summer School “Linux and Free Software” at the University of Medea
The University of Medea successfully concluded, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the activities of the Summer School “Linux and Free Software”, organized under the supervision of Professor Djaafar Bouarouri, Rector of the University and President of the Regional Conference of Central Universities, in coordination with the National Committee for Free Software. This scientific event, which began on July 20, brought together around 200 doctoral students from various Algerian universities and disciplines. Participants benefited from an intensive training program that included practical workshops and scientific lectures on Linux systems and free software. During the closing ceremony, the Rector praised the high level of organization and the scientific content of the school, reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting scientific initiatives that open new horizons for research and innovation, while promoting a culture of free software among students and researchers. Participants expressed their appreciation for the quality of the training and the spirit of scientific exchange and collaboration that characterized this edition. The Rector of the University of Medea and President of the Regional Conference of Central Universities, Professor Djaafar Bouarouri, along with the President of the National Committee for Free Software, presided over the opening ceremony of the Summer School “Linux and Free Software”, hosted by the University from July 20 to 24, 2025. This scientific and training event brings together around 200 doctoral students from various universities across the country, representing diverse scientific and technical fields, highlighting the national scope of the initiative and underlining the importance of continuous training in the field of free and open-source software. The Summer School aims to strengthen the capacities of doctoral researchers in the fields of open-source operating systems, free programming, and information security through hands-on workshops and lectures led by experts, academics, and members of civil society involved in the free software culture. This event is part of the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to promote digitalization and develop national competencies in information technology, while fostering scientific cooperation and openness to the knowledge society.
